that's strange...
it works well for me in GNOME with Ubuntu...
maybe u should go to the Appearance settings in GNOME and choose Custom in the Visual Effects tab
it's just a thought :D .. it works fine for me both ways.
maybe the ccsm doesn't work well when both KDE and GNOME are installed !!

yeah, I've found the ccsm rpm earlier on fedora and I intended to update the blog :)

the strange thing that it's working only on KDE!, it doesn't change any settings of GNOME, maybe because the configuration backend is incorrect for gnome.

Nice Review
just for the compiz settings part
it's quite strange that both distributions ubuntu and fedora include the Compiz Fusion in the standard install by default but both decide to ignore the configuration tool (ccsm) and consider it as extra!!
Anyway in ubuntu the tool is available in the (universe) repository under the name of (compizconfig-settings-manager). I think it would be available in fedora's community repository too

keep it up

ummm, a word to say, that I have been a bit lazy to test fedora 8, after customization I have done here in fedora 7, really it took so long to reach what I'm looking at now, bas shakli hageb el DVD wanazelo bardo :), cause when I looked at the screen-shots on fedora official web site, I got amazed of the new lay-out.

About using GNOME and KDE, when I first came to Linux, that was on ur laptop I think, before CAT Scope 3, I dealt with KDE, and my first real experiment was on that too, so I got used to it, I admit it y3ny, I love KDE much much more than GNOME. I know how to customize it and make it more elegant that it is. As you have mentioned, Kramba, KBFX - Which I have just installed 3 week ago -, icon sets and mouse themes and sure Beryl, all stuff that I have been trying to customize in fedora core 6, and when fedora 7 showed up, the task was really easy.
http://bingorabbit.com/misc/desktop.png - Vista like, ha?!

Pidgin, Kopete and ... aMSN, yeah, that's the one that I really prefer, I have tried all of them, but the one I liked was aMSN, it's almost MSN Messenger clone, with available plugins and themes, it end up the same like that one from Microsoft, even if we are talking about the Live! version here..

So, till I test Fedora 8 :)
