I like your ideas Ashraf and they seem perfectly aligned to what I'm thinking about, so lets summarize that and build a wider article collecting all good ideas, I may be writing a book soon about that :)

@Dandona: I disagree, because if you are right about something and you got hurt, then the "right" is not the "wrong" but it's someone's else "wrong" seemed to him to be "right", so you ended up to be "wrong" like him :)

I only skimmed through the responses so forgive me if I sound repetitive when

In big cities here such as Houston, San Fransisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, etc.. they have a very nice rule that limits the number of cars on the highways (the crucial veins for traffic!). They have what's called HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lanes, where there has to be atleast 2 passengers in the car. These lanes are the least busy lanes during rush hours and thus, they encourage people to carpool (i.e share the ride rather than drive individually) so they could get to their destinations faster.

Elmoshkela fmasr is that theres TOO MANY cars! I guess limiting the number of new cars will help alot with reducing traffic jams, but obviously that not even half of the solution.

Another important point is to have stricter laws. Now i know this sounds quite redundant, however this is the keystone to anything else that follows! People need to stop parking in no-parking areas. They need to abide with lane borders, speed limits, and most importantly traffic lights (which also needs to be worked on once traffic laws are actually enforced) because step by step, traffic will (inshaAllah!) regulate itself. Along with such improvements should be a traffic control districts to monitor traffic flow and to help clear the way for emergency vehicles.

Last, but indeed not least, is the metropolian transit system. When I was in Egypt, I was too young to drive so I regularly took otobees 939 (from madinet nasr lel masr el gedeeda), and I would take the CTF (the air-conditioned bus when available, which is almost never. I'm pretty sure many of you might disagree, but I think a possible solution for public transportation fmasr is to privatize it. A private company will likely be alittle more expensive than what the government charges people, however it'll put more effort towards effeciency and sticking to a schedule because they want to survive as a company, and if they fail to properly replace the government's buses then they will fail and be replaced by another company by the government.

In the states, the tax system is very different from Egypt, thus the government spending and monetary system cannot be compared side to side. I would love to go further on this topic but it's beyond the scope of this discussion, so I'm gonna keep it to that. For now, i'll jts say that this is one of Egypt's weakest points (and it's the primary factor for a low budgeted government)....

Keep up the flow of good ideas! MashaAllah we have a fine collection of brilliant minds :)
